Erin There I was standing in front of the mirror before a date with my husband. We were going to a restaurant I had been dying to try for weeks. Great black pants? Check. Fun, flirty top? Check. Amazing shoes of which I lied about the price? Check. But something was missing. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t find a necklace that looked just right. I gave up and dinner was fabulous anyway. But when I found myself in that same predicament before a movie date with my girlfriends and again before my son’s soccer game, I decided to take matters into my own hands—literally, and started making my own necklaces.

That was two years ago. I started designing and creating and I loved having just the right jewelry to wear with all my outfits. I started to hope I wouldn’t have something that coordinated because it was fun to make something specific to go with a cool shirt or liven up a basic work skirt. Pretty soon, people started noticing my unique pendants and asked me to create something for them. And Flair was born.

I get ideas for the designs everywhere. Every candid photograph, corner of artwork, piece of fabric, scrap of paper, it all has possibility to me. My friend Betsy told me, “You see the world in pendants,” and it's true!

My favorite thing about making them is that I get my creative fix. I work in finance during the day. Being analytical is enjoyable too, but there is something satisfying and rewarding about making a piece of jewelry. It is my happy place—a productive and gratifying way to spend my spare time. I hope whether it’s Serengeti, Loft, Savannah, or Kendall, you find your place too.
